Grandma's Retro Recipes

Cousin Rhonda’s Favorite Cake

“It sounds weird, but my grandma used to make a Salad Dressing Cake. Do you think you might want a copy of it?”

(Rhonda and I were chatting over the phone. I told her yes.)

“Okay, but it is in her handwriting so it is sort of hard to read… she doesn’t say anything about what size pan to use but I always bake it in a rectangle one.”

Ingredients
4 cups flour
2 cups salad dressing

“Like mayonnaise?”

“Yeah, but use the salad dressing, not the real mayo.”

1-1/4 cups sugar
6 tbsp cocoa
6 teasp baking soda
1 teasp salt
2 cups water

“Mix good. Can you believe that is all it says? Mix good and bake at 350 for 30 minutes!”

“In a rectangle pan?”

“Yeah, lightly grease and flour it, first.”
