Grandma's Buttermilk Pie

“I can honestly say that I have never eaten one buttermilk pie that tastes like another. This is my grandmother’s recipe. I think it is great – although, I have to admit, I have eaten others that are equally as good. Shh… don’t tell grandma.”

Ingredients

A pastry shell for 9 inch pie, unbaked

3 jumbo eggs

¾ cup sugar

3 TBSP flour

1 ½ cups fresh buttermilk, (not the powdered buttermilk)

1 teasp Watkins vanilla

3 TBSP fresh lemon juice

½ teasp lemon extract or 1 teasp lemon zest

1 TBSP melted butter; unsalted

couple pinches of nutmeg

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350. With a toothpick, poke a couple holes into bottom of piecrust. Bake for 8 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove crust from oven. Beat eggs and sugar for 3 minutes until very light and frothy. Whisk flour into egg mixture. Add buttermilk, extracts, zest and melted butter. Beat until frothy again. Pour into baked pie shell. Sprinkle nutmeg over the top. Bake for approximately 30 minutes. Cool before serving. enJOY!
