Pizza Tag

The doorbell rang. The brown truck pulled away.

There on the front porch were two giant boxes from "A Taste of Chicago." Who could these pepperoni deep-dish pizzas be from? I just love the holidaysthe surprises they bring. I broke two fingernails yanking cardboard.

I flipped the red and white box onto all six sides. Where was the gift tag? It wasn't inside; it must be on the bottom. Sure enough, there it was... Dear Ken, I read out loud. You are the greatest. Oh wow, these must be from his sister. Please enjoy these wonderful pizzas with your fabulous family. How cool. My sister-in-law remembered me—sort of. All my love, Ken.

Ken? Ken! My husband wrote a gift tag to himself?

"Yeah, isn’t it funny?" Ken laughed, just home from work.

I have to admit, I totally cracked up. I mean ---- what crazy nut sends a note to him self saying what a great guy he is, or a wonderful family he has? Then an epiphany. What father wouldn’t do such a thing? I mean ---- kudos to Ken. We do have a fabulous family. And, (though I may be a teensy partial ----- I have known this handsome guy since 5th grade), to me he is the greatest.

"No I am not the greatest...I just thought it would be funny to write that."

Funny? It was beyond hysterical. It was top-of-the-sky, super-hero stuff, and it gave me an idea.

"Debbie, I know that look. What goofy idea are you thinking?"

"It is not goofy. It's perfect! How about inviting readers to send in family goals? I don’t think it has ever been done before. Surely I am not the only Field of Dreams hopeless romantic. If you build it, they will come…"

"Debbie, it is a gift tag—on a pizza box."

"No it's not! It is a place for families to celebrate each other, and for goodness sake, we moms need all the support we can get! Do you know what it is like trying to hold everything together? I am so busy running around that I never think to announce, 'hey, these kids sitting in the back seat fighting over the radio station are an awesome gift from God. We are a fabulous family and our goal this year is to laugh more!'"

"Yeah, but what food are they? I mean, not everyone can be pizza like us."

"Well maybe they can! That is up to them. I love it! Do you think other moms will love it, too?"

"Debbie, it is a gift tag—on a pizza box."

Okay. It is a gift tag on a pizza box. Tag, you are it! Your turn! Who is your family and what do you enjoy? Fill out the gift tag then pass it along to a friend. Together let's celebrate the remarkable people sitting around the table while dishing up food to go on the table.
